Charlotte Bamforth

Graduate Project Specialist

Charlotte is a MEng Mechanical Engineering with Energy graduate from Newcastle University, with a placement year at Fortescue Zero designing batteries for a variety of electric motorsport series, including Formula E. She has a particular interest in reducing our environmental impact by advancing renewable energy technology and strategy, understanding the consequences of this development through life cycle assessment, and encouraging sustainability and circular economy practices both at domestic and industry level.

Her masters group dissertation, for which she led the project management, focused on developing a recycling system to reduce 3D printed waste within Newcastle University’s engineering makerspace, producing filament suitable for use in 3D printers. She assessed the recycled filament’s suitability through tensile testing and evaluated the system’s feasibility via a life cycle assessment of its cost and carbon impact compared to virgin filament.

Charlotte’s education and industry experience has equipped her with a practical and collaborative approach to problem solving. She is skilled in Autodesk Inventor and Siemens NX CAD and is developing her proficiency in GIS and programming languages, including Python and MATLAB.
