£1 million funding available for HGV fleet operators

Supporting HGV operators plan their transition to zero-emission vehicles

The Scottish Government has launched the SME Fleet Analysis Support Scheme, offering £1 million in funding to help small and medium-sized HGV operators plan their transition to zero-emission vehicles.

Eligible businesses can apply for up to £20,000 in specialist support to create tailored decarbonisation plans.

Based in Scotland, Urban Foresight is the leading specialist in HGV decarbonisation. With extensive experience in fleet analysis, transition planning, and securing funding, we are uniquely positioned to help operators access this fantastic opportunity.

Why this matters for Scottish hauliers

Decarbonising HGV fleets is complex. Vehicle upfront costs, gaps in infrastructure, and technology uncertainty often stall investment.

The scheme breaks down those barriers by giving access to expert support to clarify options, reduce risk and provide practicable, achievable actions tailored to the needs of each operator.

What support covers

The funding is focussed on helping you understand the short, medium and long-term solutions for decarbonising the HGVs in your fleet. Support might include:

  • Fleet analysis and Total Cost of Ownership modelling
  • Route and operational reviews
  • Technology and infrastructure assessments
  • Evaluation of financing options
  • Opportunities for collaboration

Why partner with Urban Foresight?

Based in Scotland, Urban Foresight is the UK’s leading specialist in zero-emission transport transitions, trusted by governments, logistics providers, and infrastructure operators across the country and internationally. We bring proven experience in delivering fleet transition strategies, depot energy modelling, and developing tailored business cases that help operators successfully adopt low-emission vehicles.

In 2022 we successfully supported several SME bus operators through the Scottish Zero Emission Bus Challenge Fund, a similar Transport Scotland funding programme – expertise we now bring directly to the HGV sector.

As a result of this initiative, one of our clients led a consortium of bus operators that secured over £136 million funding, bringing 252 zero-emission buses and coaches to Scotland’s roads. Another client received £523,740 in funding to purchase 4 electric buses.

Other examples of our experience include coordinating a major trial of electric HGVs in Dundee, advising the government of Kyrgyzstan on options for electrifying buses in the capital city Bishkek, and advising the Scottish Wholesale Association on decarbonising fleets.
